Yesterday afternoon we were arriving, but by dinner all were here. A little roundtable of introductions and then a wonderful opening dinner started things off. Dinner was incredible. Some of the best food I've ever eaten. Followed by cordials and a couple fine cigars and then finally the thing everyone was waiting for: the Campfire. What a setting! A small clearing in the woods, a beautiful view of the mountains and noone except the 24 of us for more than 30 miles. The firepit was all set up and around 9:00 everyone made their way out and around it. Such a wonderful place and so nice and warm. After a little small talk, the bottles started "popping" up. First everyone was a little shy, but hey, Sniffin Poppers is what Popper Summer Camp is all about. It only took about 2 guys pulling out their bottles, taking a nice first hit of the night, and then sharing with their neighbor sitting next to them before everyone had their bottles out and we were all sniffin like the pigs. She looks down at me. She has makeup on her face. "Playing with athree-year-old is too basic. Mom ain?t paying me to babysit."I want to cry because she?s mean. I don?t because I?m a big girl. Istick my tongue out as she leaves.I sit on the floor next to my crib to play more with my dolls.I put the Barbies down because it?s too hard to put clothes on them.I get my baby dolly.I rock it to sleep.I sing, "Seep ba-ba. ni-ni."I don?t see Mommy.I want Mommy.I am about to cry for Mommy when a flood of complicated thoughts andmemories fill my head. I remember everything. I look around inconfusion as I think about my situation. Chris Heidecker and I were atthe beach yesterday looking for some girls to pick up when hevandalized that gift shop and now things have gone completely off therails, weirder than an episode of The Twilight Zone.I look down at my pudgy little hands with their dimpled knuckles, sostrange and yet so familiar.
